Maintenance Planned at Tinker Mountain Facility

Roanoke Gas Company will conduct a planned, controlled gas flare near Tinker Mountain Road, beginning Monday, May 4. The flaring is required to properly inspect a portion of the natural gas system.

Maintaining our equipment is part of providing dependable service to more than 60,000 customers across our service area. As a trusted utility provider for more than 140 years, we take that responsibility seriously.

Flaring is a well-established, industry-standard practice that is used when gas needs to be safely removed prior to inspection or maintenance.

No. Natural gas service will not be interrupted during this work.

Flaring is the controlled, intentional burn of natural gas. When used for maintenance, flaring ensures a safe, depressurized work environment.

Flaring typically produces a visible flame. This is normal and expected during the flaring process.

Yes. Roanoke Gas Company personnel will be on-site to closely monitor and manage all activity for the duration of the project.

Flaring is expected to occur during daylight hours for approximately 10 days. Personnel and equipment will remain on-site until all planned work is complete.
